The goal of the collaboration is to develop and apply new tagging reagents that will allow incorporation of a caged lanthanide metal ion at arbitrary positions on a target protein. This tagging will then facilitate measurement of anisotropic magnetic interactions to assist in protein structure determination and docking of multi-component protein:protein complexes.
